Amorim Wants Wantaway Rashford to Stay at Man United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire for Marcus Rashford to remain at Old Trafford despite recent remarks from the England forward suggesting he might seek a “new challenge.”

Rashford, a product of United’s youth academy, has made 426 appearances and scored 138 goals since his debut in 2016.

However, the 27-year-old has faced a dip in form over the past 18 months, leading to his exclusion from England’s Euro 2024 squad. Amorim’s decision to bench Rashford for United’s victory over Manchester City last weekend further fueled speculation about the player’s future. In a social media interview on Tuesday, Rashford declined to rule out leaving the club.

When questioned during a press briefing on Wednesday, Amorim, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in November, confirmed he had not yet spoken to Rashford. “No, not yet,” he said. “It was yesterday (when) I gave the day off to the lads, so he’s our player and he’s ready for the next game.”

Amorim emphasized his desire to retain Rashford, calling him a “big talent” vital for a club of United’s stature. He added, “He just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”

The manager also suggested that Rashford could find his “new challenge” by contributing to United’s ongoing efforts to reclaim their dominance. Currently 13th in the Premier League, United faces a tough path back to glory. “For me, it’s the biggest challenge in football… I hope all my players are ready for this new challenge,” Amorim said.

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou dismissed speculation linking Rashford with a potential January move to the London club, saying, “There’s always noise about Manchester United. I manage my players, and other managers will manage theirs.”
