Operatives from the Anambra State security outfit, known as “Agunechemba,” successfully raided a criminal hideout in the Enugwu-Agidi area of Njikoka Local Government on Thursday. The operation resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms and other illicit items.
The raid was carried out in collaboration with various security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), the military, and local vigilante groups. The operation, which targeted a notorious criminal hideout, was reportedly a significant success.
During the raid, a total of 14 firearms were recovered, which included two AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, and four locally-made pistols. In addition, the security personnel seized three packets of cartridges, which contained a total of 101 cartridges, four empty AK-47 rifle magazines, and three machetes.
Other items confiscated included one Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and various charms. The operation also led to the apprehension of a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate.
A video showing the success of the operation has been widely circulated on social media, where both the security personnel and the local residents celebrated the achievement. The video has generated positive reactions, with many hailing the efforts of the security forces to combat criminal activities in the state.
Despite the success of the operation, attempts to reach key officials for further details on the raid proved unsuccessful. Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Policing, who oversees the security operations, did not respond to calls or messages regarding the raid. Similarly, the Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm details of the operation, stating that he had not been briefed.
However, a police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, provided more insight into the operation, stating that it was a joint effort based on intelligence gathered by the police. The source emphasized the commitment to rid Anambra State of criminal activities. “Anambra must be free again. The governor has done much, and he has given us the mandate to secure the state, and that’s what we are doing. Those criminals must bow,” the source stated.
