JUST IN: Another Senator Set to Join APC

Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District under the Labour Party (LP), has revealed plans to officially switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12, 2025. The announcement was made during a media briefing held in Benin City to mark the senator’s second year in office.

Imasuen, who also leads the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, said his decision is aimed at aligning Edo South with the development priorities of the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He described the move as one of strategic importance, not one driven by personal gain or political calculation.

“This is a strategic decision, not an act of opportunism,” the senator said. He also pointed to ongoing internal issues within the Labour Party as a contributing factor to his decision to leave.

During the briefing, Imasuen took time to share his accomplishments halfway through his term. Among them was the sponsorship of the bill to establish the Federal College of Education in Abudu. He also noted that his committee has successfully handled over 20 public petitions from citizens across Nigeria, giving voice to people who otherwise may not have had their grievances addressed.

“These interventions have made a significant difference in the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” he stated.

On the local level, Imasuen listed several development projects aimed at improving lives in Edo South. These include skills training programmes for youth and women, agricultural support efforts centered on crops such as cocoa, rubber, and cashew, and rural health initiatives including the training of traditional birth attendants.

Scholarships have also been provided to many students in the senatorial district to support education and human development. He noted the challenges of sustaining such projects, especially when local authorities are not fully engaged.

He called for stronger cooperation with local governments to improve the impact and sustainability of these efforts. “We remain committed to health, youth empowerment, and rural development. These are areas where real, lasting impact can be made,” Imasuen added.

He also spoke about the role of agriculture in driving national progress. According to the senator, farmers in the district have seen better crop yields following access to modern farming tools and training sessions organized through his office.

“Agriculture is the cornerstone of our national survival, and we are empowering our farmers with skills and support to make the most of it,” he concluded.
