Embattled Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has alleged that the petition seeking her recall was orchestrated by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the support of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The senator, who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this claim while addressing her supporters during a homecoming event on Tuesday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission recently confirmed that it received the petition for her recall but initially noted that some required details, including the petitioners’ addresses and phone numbers, were missing. Later, INEC stated that the missing information had been provided, allowing the recall process to move forward.
Speaking to a large crowd of supporters who welcomed her, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused INEC of helping the petitioners by guiding them on how to submit the required details properly. She stated, “From my personal perspective, what I see INEC doing is aiding and guiding petitioners on how to perfect their illicit acts.”
She further claimed that the initial petition lacked the necessary information but alleged that INEC had played a role in helping the petitioners correct these errors. “The first time the petition was submitted, they didn’t have address, phone numbers and all of that but INEC is out to guide them how to submit information that will perfect the petition,” she added.
The senator also argued that the petitioners, who she insisted were from the APC, had submitted a letterhead with an address that she claimed “does not exist.” She expressed concerns that the process was politically motivated and unfairly influenced to remove her from office.
