Jesutega Onokpasa, a popular figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed away. The lawyer, known for his fiery political opinions and loyalty to the ruling party, died on Monday, June 9, 2025, though the cause of his death remains unknown at this time.
News of his death was confirmed on Tuesday through a post on social media by Okezie Atani, a pro-APC supporter.
Using his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Atani wrote, “We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, may his soul rest in perfect peace.” The message quickly gathered attention, with condolences pouring in from political allies.
Onokpasa was not only a seasoned lawyer but also a vocal supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC administration.
His appearances on television and media platforms often sparked debate, as he openly defended government policies and political actions, even during controversial moments.
He was seen as a strong voice for the party, especially during the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.
A Facebook page known as Renewed Hope United Kingdom also posted a detailed tribute, titled “A Farewell to a Passionate Advocate: Honouring Jesutega Onokpasa’s Legacy.”
The tribute read, “The passing of Barrister Jesutega Onokpasa is a profound loss to the Nigerian political and legal landscape… His voice, whether in support or critique, was a vital part of Nigeria’s democratic conversation, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Onokpasa served as a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 and was also part of the party’s Publicity Committee. Those close to him noted his deep passion for public engagement and his role in shaping political discussion in the country.
He is survived by his wife and children.
