The All Progressive Congress in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State has suspended its state secretary, Mr. Chidi Avadja, citing alleged violations of the party’s constitution.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Acting Ward Chairman, Nwabueze Ndumele, and Ward Secretary, Ifeanyichukwu John, the decision was made following a meeting held on Saturday at Okaiuga Civic Hall, Okwu Olokoro. The party leaders said the suspension was necessary to maintain discipline and protect the integrity of the APC at the ward level.
The statement noted that Avadja allegedly appointed an acting ward chairman on his own, without involving the ward’s congress-elected officials. This action was seen as a disregard for the party’s internal structure and rules.
“The party further resolved to suspend the state secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah, for violating Article 21, Section A, subsections ii, vi and vii of the constitution of our great party,” the statement read.
In addition to the secretary’s suspension, the party also suspended Mr. Onyekwere Chibuike Sylvester for allegedly impersonating the chairman of the ward. The statement claimed that Sylvester’s actions went against Article 21, Section A, Subsection IV of the party’s constitution.
The statement also alleged that Avadja had not fulfilled his financial obligations to the party, saying, “Furthermore, there is no evidence that Chief Chidi Avajah has paid a dime as monthly dues to the party. This is in violation of Article 9, Section 9.2, Subsection ii.”
To look into these allegations further, a seven-member disciplinary committee has been formed. The committee is expected to investigate the conduct of both Avadja and Sylvester and recommend the appropriate actions.
The ward leaders said they were committed to strengthening the party at the grassroots and would ensure only loyal and constitution-abiding members remain in leadership roles.
They noted, “The party shall enthrone discipline and adhere strictly to the provisions of our revered party constitution.”
The leadership also mentioned that part of their goal is to ensure the ward is fully prepared to deliver victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
