APGA Sets Date, Guidelines for Anambra Governorship Primaries

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed the date for its 2025 Anambra governorship primary election. The event will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital.

In a statement issued by the National Organising Secretary and Secretary of the Electoral Committee 2025, Ifeanyi Mbaeri, the party outlined the details and procedures for a smooth and orderly conduct of the primary election.

The primary election is expected to commence promptly at 8 a.m. with the accreditation of delegates and observers. This process will take place outside the premises of Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, along the tarred road leading to the New Government House.

Accreditation will run until noon, and the statement stressed that no delegate or observer would be allowed to queue after 12 p.m. Those who are not accredited by that time will not be permitted access to the venue.

The statement further noted that only accredited delegates and observers would be granted entry into the venue. To ensure proper identification, delegates and observers must present a valid form of ID, which can include a National ID card, international passport, voter’s card, or any other government-issued identification.

Additionally, all accredited individuals must wear their identification tags at all times during the election.

Delegates will be seated according to their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) in clearly marked sections of the pavilion, and observers will have a separate designated stand. It is mandatory for all delegates, including elected officials like National Assembly members, House of Assembly members, Mayors, and Councillors, to remain seated within their designated LGA stands throughout the election process.

When it comes to voting, the process will be conducted by balloting. Each delegate will have the option to mark ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ on the ballot paper in the appropriate section. Voting will occur in an orderly fashion, following alphabetical order by LGA. Once voting concludes, the ballots will be sorted, counted, and the results will be announced by the Electoral Committee.

The APGA has emphasized that the primary election will be conducted in full compliance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act of 2022, and INEC Guidelines/Regulations for Political Party Primaries.
