Armed Men Attack Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Family House Again, Police Arrest One

The family home of Kogi senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has once again been violently attacked by armed men.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed that a suspect, Jose Suberu, was arrested during the latest incident, which occurred on Tuesday. According to police sources, Suberu was caught at the scene and has since confessed to his involvement in the attack. The police said that efforts are currently ongoing to track down the other attackers who managed to flee.

SP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kogi State, spoke to reporters and said, “Yes it’s true and one suspect, Joe Suberu was arrested at the scene. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing others.”

A statement issued by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media team explained that the attackers damaged several windows of the family residence during the late-night assault. However, they were eventually stopped by a quick response from local police officers, community vigilantes, and young people in the area.

“However, with the swift intervention of officers from the local police station, community vigilantes, and concerned youths, the attackers were repelled and one suspect was apprehended,” the statement read.

The media office also noted that Suberu, who is from the same community, claimed this was his third time taking part in attacks on the senator’s family home. He was also described as a ritualist and is believed to have links with political enemies of the lawmaker.

Before the police could take him away, an angry crowd reportedly tried to beat him up. He was later rescued from the mob and handed over to the authorities.

During the arrest, officers recovered a cutlass and some charms from the suspect. According to the statement, other attackers had dangerous weapons and are still on the run as of the time of the report.

“A cutlass and charms were recovered from him. Other suspects involved in the attack, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, remained at large at press time,” the statement added.

This incident follows an earlier attack in April on the same property. No suspects were arrested during that attack, raising concerns about the safety of the senator’s family and the repeated threats they are facing.
