Army Urges Residents to Stay Calm Amidst Military Shooting Drills in Taraba

The Nigerian Army has called for calm among residents of Taraba State, particularly those living near Jalingo and Yorro Local Government Areas, as they begin a major shooting exercise. The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, stationed in Jalingo, announced that this exercise is part of their regular training to improve the skills of their soldiers.

Captain Olubodunde Oni, the brigade’s spokesperson, explained that the shooting drills would be carried out at the military range in Jimlari. The exercise, which starts today, September 17, 2024, will continue until Thursday, September 19, 2024. This event is part of the brigade’s Annual Range Classification Phase 2, which focuses on enhancing the soldiers’ ability to handle and maintain their weapons effectively.

Oni further mentioned that residents should expect to see an increase in the movement of troops and military equipment in the area during this period. Additionally, there will be live ammunition firing at the designated military range. The army has warned residents to avoid the 114 Battalion Rear Jimlari Shooting Range, where the drills will take place, for their own safety.

In an effort to reassure the public, the Nigerian Army has stated that all necessary safety measures have been put in place. Captain Oni emphasized that the training is a routine procedure and urged residents not to panic when they hear gunshots or see troops moving in large numbers.

Similar military training exercises have been carried out in other parts of Nigeria, including states like Gombe and Oyo, with the aim of improving the skills of army personnel and ensuring peace and security in these regions.

Recently, the Nigerian Army has also set up new battalions, including the 114 Battalion in Taraba State, as part of its broader effort to maintain stability in the area.
