ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike at Niger Delta University

Academic activities at Niger Delta University (NDU) have come to a standstill as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike. The union claims that the Bayelsa State Government has failed to fulfill agreements previously reached with its members.

The announcement was made on Tuesday after a critical meeting held at the union’s secretariat in Amassoma. ASUU members expressed their frustration over the government’s alleged inaction, describing it as a breach of trust.

While the specific grievances were not immediately detailed, the union has pointed to longstanding issues such as unpaid allowances, inadequate funding for the university, and delayed implementation of previous agreements. This latest development adds to the challenges faced by students and staff at the state-owned institution.

The strike is expected to have far-reaching effects on academic activities at NDU, potentially disrupting lectures, examinations, and research work. Students, many of whom are nearing the end of their academic programs, have expressed concerns over the indefinite nature of the strike and its impact on their future plans.
