At Least Five Killed in Ibadan Auto Accident

At least five people lost their lives in a deadly early morning crash that occurred along the Soka stretch of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The tragic incident involved several vehicles, including four trailers, four Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry.

Eyewitnesses at the scene noted that the crash started when one of the trailers, which was heading toward Lagos, rammed into another trailer attempting to reverse out of an old, unused fuel station located near the Soka area.

The collision caused a sudden halt, and three other trailers coming behind were unable to stop in time. This led to a chain reaction that crushed four Micra taxis and a Camry caught in between.

The impact was devastating, especially for one of the Micra cars which was flattened in the collision. All four people inside the vehicle, including the driver, died instantly. According to bystanders, the Micra had just picked up passengers from nearby Sanyo, a bus stop only a short distance from the accident site.

Among those in the Micra was a married couple. Witnesses said the wife died immediately at the scene, while her husband, seated in the front seat, survived but suffered minor injuries. He was later helped out of the wreck by rescue workers.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived shortly after the accident was reported. They managed to recover the bodies and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The crash left traffic in complete disarray as emergency services cleared the damaged vehicles from the expressway.

According to road safety officials, this incident brings the number of fatal accidents in the Soka area to six so far this year. Many road users in the area are calling on authorities to improve road management and monitor the operations of heavy-duty trailers.
