Atiku Abubakar Backs Lagos Corper Facing Threats Over Viral Video

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his support for a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos, Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye. She claims to have received threats following a viral video in which she criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Atiku shared his thoughts in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, noting that Raye represents a new generation of politically active women who are committed to advocacy and democracy.

“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” Atiku wrote.

He compared Raye to notable female activists in Nigerian history, such as Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo. These women were known for their roles in the fight for democracy, human rights, and political reforms in Nigeria.

The former presidential candidate also called for support instead of hostility towards Raye. He urged Nigerians to encourage young people who are willing to engage in political discussions and stand up for their beliefs.
