Atiku Denies Resigning from PDP, Calls Rumors Malicious

Former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has refuted claims that he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The politician, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, categorically stated that he remains an active and loyal member of the party.

In a statement released by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku strongly condemned the circulating rumors as deliberate falsehoods. He pointed out that these claims were being spread by a Facebook page called “Adamawa Happenings,” which he described as a platform for political mischief and lies.

“We ordinarily would not waste words on faceless social media platforms like the so-called ‘Adamawa Happenings.’ However, in light of inquiries from concerned Nigerians and credible members of the press, we are compelled to set the record straight: His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007) and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has not — we repeat, has not — resigned from the PDP. He remains a steadfast, bona fide, and loyal member of the party,” the statement read.

Atiku further accused certain unnamed political figures of being behind the rumors, suggesting that their aim was to create confusion and sow division within his supporters. He also pointed out that these misleading claims were not only damaging to him personally but were also aimed at confusing the public and weakening the party.

The statement went on to describe the rumors as a “calculated attempt to mislead the public and sow discord among the millions of Nigerians who look to Atiku Abubakar for direction and leadership.” It labeled the false claims as a “crude, shameless political hatchet job.”

In concluding his remarks, Atiku called on Nigerians, particularly his supporters, to dismiss the rumors as “vile” and “vexatious,” encouraging them to continue supporting his vision for the country and the PDP. He reiterated his commitment to the party’s principles and to the democratic progress of Nigeria.
