Atiku Slams Wike, Praises Rivers People for Rejecting Political Godfathers

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, stating that the people of Rivers have decisively rejected political godfathers who serve only their own interests. This statement came after the recent local government elections in Rivers State, which saw new leaders emerge at the grassroots level.

In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Atiku remarked that the days of political manipulation and intimidation in Rivers State are over. He emphasized that the people of the state have embraced democracy and are no longer willing to accept the undue influence of powerful political figures.

Atiku congratulated the newly elected local government officials, suggesting that their victory reflects the public’s desire for change and for leaders who put the needs of the citizens first. He highlighted the significance of the election results, noting that they send a clear message that the residents of Rivers are tired of political leaders who place their personal ambitions above the well-being of the people.

“The populace has spoken in harmonious unison, affirming that nothing can better democracy,” Atiku stated in his message, emphasizing the people’s unified stand for democratic values.

The former Vice President also praised the peaceful conduct of the elections, commending the resilience of the people for ensuring that the process went smoothly, despite possible attempts to disrupt it. He expressed pride in the way the elections were handled, pointing out that it occurred without major incidents, despite potential provocations.

While Atiku did not mention Wike by name, his comments were seen as a direct criticism of the former governor, who has faced accusations of attempting to retain political control in the state after his tenure as governor ended.

Atiku concluded his remarks by urging the newly elected officials to focus on the needs of the people and to resist any pressure from political godfathers. He also applauded the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, for his efforts in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process, despite facing various challenges during the process.
