Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his visit to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo was not related to politics but was simply a courtesy call.
Atiku visited Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta on Monday, accompanied by notable politicians, including former Cross River State Governor Senator Liyel Imoke, former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and Senator Abdul Ningi, among others.
The meeting took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, where the former Vice President and his delegation were received by Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, a close associate of Obasanjo.
The meeting between Atiku and Obasanjo lasted about one and a half hours. When journalists approached Atiku after the discussion, he maintained that the visit was strictly a courtesy call and had nothing to do with the 2027 presidential election or any political agenda.
“I am here on a courtesy call. I am not here to talk politics,” Atiku told reporters. He further dismissed any speculation linking the meeting to his political ambitions, stating, “I was not in Abeokuta to see Obasanjo because of 2027… It is a courtesy visit. I’m not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I’m not here because of 2027.”
