August 1: We’ve Uncovered Political Plot to Hijack Upcoming Protest – Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sounded the alarm about a scheme by unnamed politicians to disrupt an upcoming protest scheduled for August 1, aiming to incite chaos in the state.

Speaking on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf revealed that his administration has identified plans by certain self-interested politicians to exploit the protest for their own ends, using it as a cover to instigate violence.

“We are ready to receive protesters for a peaceful dialogue in the Government House. I will not run away, let them bring their positions and I will go with my stakeholders to President Tinubu and present our position to him,” stated Governor Yusuf, emphasizing his commitment to addressing the protesters’ concerns through direct communication.

The governor also called on the Federal Government to address the soaring prices of fuel and electricity, and to reopen borders to facilitate the importation of goods. He stressed the urgent need for the government to lower the cost of essential commodities and services to alleviate the burden on Nigerians.

Governor Yusuf reminded the public of his administration’s efforts to restore peace in Kano, which had been previously disrupted. He disclosed disturbing information about a plan by some politicians to distribute red caps to thugs who would then use the protest as a pretext to loot shops and harm innocent people.

“We have uncovered moves by some disgruntled elements and politicians to purchase red caps and share them among thugs to use during the protest and loot shops and kill innocent persons,” he said.

To counteract the rising costs, the governor announced that his government is planning to establish a price control office in the state. This office will aim to stabilize prices and ensure that goods are sold at uniform rates, making essential items more affordable for the common man.
