Bandit Leader Bello Turji Seeks Truce After Death of Top Commander

Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji is allegedly seeking peace following the death of his top commander and close relative, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo.

Turji, known as one of the most dangerous criminals operating in Nigeria’s North West region, appears to be trying to open dialogue with authorities after a major blow to his group’s leadership. Reports say Danbokolo was killed during a recent operation by Nigerian security forces.

The information came through a post shared on X by Zagazola Makama, a well-known counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad area. Quoting several unnamed sources, Makama noted that Turji is now reaching out to other armed groups to arrange a meeting.

The purpose of this gathering, according to the report, is to talk about a possible surrender and negotiation with the governments of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States.

Sources claim Turji’s change in attitude is likely due to the loss of Danbokolo, who played a critical role in the group. While Turji served as the spokesperson and figurehead, it was Danbokolo who organized attacks, managed supplies, and controlled operations deep within forest areas that the group used as hideouts.

“Turji was mostly the public face. It was Danbokolo who led the fighting forces, ran the logistics, and enforced their authority in the forest corridors. This is the first time he has been truly exposed. Without Danbokolo, his operational muscles is crippled,” said a source familiar with the group’s structure.
