Suspected kidnappers ambushed a bus carrying 18 passengers on its way to Ado-Ekiti. The attack occurred on Sunday night at Emure Ile, near the boundary between Ondo and Ekiti states, as the vehicle returned from Onitsha.
According to a source from the Ado-Ekiti branch of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), the gunmen seized all passengers, including the driver, identified as Sunday Emmanuel. The abductors have demanded a ransom of N30 million for each victim.
Children who were left behind on the bus were reportedly found crying, drawing the attention of early-morning passersby. The discovery was quickly reported to the police. Two passengers managed to escape during the attack, and the bus was later recovered by authorities.
“They drove the bus into the bush and dragged people away. I spoke briefly with the driver after his family was contacted by the kidnappers,” a source told VANGUARD. “They demanded N30 million as ransom and promised to call back, but there has been no further contact.”
The driver’s union in Ado-Ekiti has since convened a meeting to strategize on how to handle the ransom negotiations.
Meanwhile, the family of the abducted driver has expressed frustration, stating they have not heard from the kidnappers after their initial call. “We are waiting for updates and hoping the union can help resolve this situation,” a family member said.
