The Acting Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Surajo Amadu Rufa’i, was killed by suspected bandits. The incident occurred late Saturday night at Mairana village in Kusada Local Government Area.
According to local sources, the armed assailants stormed the village around 11:30 p.m., targeting the residence of Alhaji Rufa’i. The attackers fatally shot the chairman and abducted his two wives and a daughter, who is reportedly an undergraduate. One of the abducted wives was later released under unclear circumstances.
The attack also left two other individuals dead and several others injured. Witnesses reported that the assailants fled the area after carrying out their violent raid. The remains of the deceased were buried Sunday morning in line with Islamic traditions.
Confirming the incident, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, stated, “Upon receipt of the report, police operatives led by the DPO Kusada responded swiftly to the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by a doctor.”
He added that officers pursued the bandits to Kofa village.
“A gun duel ensued when the operatives tracked the assailants to Kofa village, forcing the bandits to flee due to the operatives’ superior firepower.
“Unfortunately, two persons were fatally shot by the bandits during their escape. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Further development will be communicated as the investigation proceeds”, the statement noted.
