Barcelona End La Liga Season with 3-0 Win at Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona sign off La Liga season with a dominant 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, closing out their campaign in impressive fashion. The match, played on Sunday at San Mamés, marked a fitting end to a successful domestic season for the Catalan giants.

Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski was once again the star of the show, scoring two goals and hitting a personal milestone. The 36-year-old now has over 100 goals in a Barcelona shirt since his move from Bayern Munich in 2022. His brace also brought his total league goals this season to 27, just four behind Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who led the scoring charts with 31.

Lewandowski opened the scoring in the first half after receiving a well-timed assist from young midfielder Fermin Lopez. With calm composure, he lifted the ball past Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon, making it Barcelona’s 100th league goal of the season. Just minutes later, the Polish striker found the net again—this time heading in at the far post after a corner was flicked on into his path.

Athletic Bilbao, who also had a strong season by finishing fourth and securing a return to the Champions League after 11 years, had their own emotional moment. Defender Oscar de Marcos played his final game for the club, making his 570th appearance. He now stands as the second-most capped player in Athletic history, only behind legendary goalkeeper Jose Angel Iribar.

Barcelona’s goalkeeper Inaki Pena made a key save in the second half, reacting quickly to push a deflected ball onto the bar, while 17-year-old Lamine Yamal continued to impress, forcing a sharp save from Simon at his near post.

The third goal came in stoppage time when Dani Olmo was brought down in the box. He stepped up himself to take the penalty and calmly converted it to seal the 3-0 victory.

With the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup already in their trophy cabinet, Barcelona finish the season on a high, showing why they were the top team in Spain this year.
