Barcelona Triumphs Over Real Madrid in Thrilling 5-2 Spanish Super Cup Victory

Barcelona, on Sunday night, crushed arch-rivals Real Madrid 5-2 to claim the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday, January 12, 2025. This stunning victory marks the first silverware under the management of Hansi Flick.

Despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half, Barcelona showcased their dominance throughout the match.

The game began with Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé giving his team an early lead in the fifth minute. Breaking free on a counter-attack, Mbappé slotted the ball past Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny.

However, Barcelona responded fiercely. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal equalized with a brilliant solo goal, drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi as he cut in from the right and finished expertly.

Barcelona took control when Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Eduardo Camavinga’s clumsy challenge on Gavi. Raphinha then scored twice—first with a header and later setting up Alejandro Balde to add another goal before halftime, leaving Real Madrid stunned with a 4-1 scoreline.

In the second half, Raphinha struck again, completing his brace with a composed finish. However, Barcelona faced a setback when Szczesny was sent off after fouling Mbappé outside the box. Rodrygo Goes converted the resulting free kick, reducing the deficit.

Despite their numerical advantage, Real Madrid couldn’t capitalize further. Barcelona’s defensive resilience and midfield brilliance ensured a record-extending 15th Super Cup triumph.
