Bauchi: Police Detain 3 Over Teen’s Death Due to Abortion

The Police in Bauchi State have arrested three individuals in connection with the death of an 18-year-old girl who reportedly died following complications from an unsafe abortion in Misau town.

The incident, although reported to authorities on April 4, 2025, actually occurred about four months earlier, according to the Bauchi State Police Command. The spokesperson of the command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, shared the details of the case in a statement made public on Thursday.

Wakil said the teenage girl was allegedly deceived and taken advantage of by two of the suspects on several occasions. After realizing she was pregnant, the two young men allegedly collaborated with a third individual, Abubakar Mohammed, to find a way to terminate the pregnancy.

According to police investigations, Abubakar Mohammed was paid N40,000 to administer an injection aimed at ending the pregnancy.

However, instead of helping her, the injection caused severe complications. The young girl’s condition worsened quickly, prompting an urgent visit to the General Hospital in Misau.

From there, she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare for further treatment.

Despite efforts by medical staff, the girl could not be saved and was confirmed dead during treatment.

CSP Wakil also mentioned that in the course of the investigation, the arrested suspects provided names of ten more individuals who might be connected to the incident. Those individuals are currently being questioned at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Misau.

He noted that the police are fully committed to carrying out a thorough investigation. “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed,” Wakil added.
