Benue Killings: Police Have Arrested Several Suspects – CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that police authorities have arrested several individuals linked to the recent violent attacks in Benue State, which left many dead and communities shaken.

The former commander made this known during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time show on Thursday, June 19, 2025. He explained that while the government may not have made public announcements regarding the progress of investigations, steps were already underway behind the scenes.

According to him, the Department of State Services (DSS), police, and other security agencies are working together closely to uncover the facts and restore peace.

Musa stated, “Because we are law abiding individuals, so we have to be sure of what we’re doing. Because it was not announced doesn’t mean it is not taking place. The police have arrested a number of people, and actions are being taken. Investigations are ongoing with the DSS, the police.”

The attack, which occurred in Guma Local Government Area, reportedly left over 200 people dead. The killings, believed to have been carried out by suspected herdsmen, triggered widespread anger across the country and increased calls for urgent intervention.

The defence chief noted that resolving the security crisis in the area takes coordination and patience, adding that security operatives are doing all they can within the boundaries of the law.

He said, “You know, it takes a lot. So, because we are law abiding individuals, so we have to be sure of what we’re doing, and I think that’s a critical aspect, but all the security forces are working together to ensure that this stops.”
