The mother of Tigran Gambaryan, a top Binance executive currently detained in Nigeria, has made an emotional plea to the Nigerian government.
Knarik Gambaryan insists that her son is innocent and knows nothing about the charges leveled against him.
In a statement released on Friday, she passionately asked for her son’s release, even offering herself in exchange for his freedom.
In her statement, Knarik pleaded, “He’s innocent, that’s all. But I’m asking, and I’m begging everyone who can help my son: please bring him home. That’s all we need. Take me, exchange me for my son; just let him go home! I don’t care what happens to me, just let my son go home!” She maintained that her son is not involved in any of the allegations made against him.
Tigran Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen and Binance’s Financial Crimes Compliance Chief, was detained in Nigeria in February 2024. He was arrested along with another Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla.
Both men were reportedly apprehended after arriving in Nigeria for business discussions, and their arrests are tied to an ongoing investigation linking Binance to allegations of money laundering and terrorism financing.
Since their arrest, Gambaryan has remained in custody and is currently being held at Kuje Correctional Centre. Anjarwalla, on the other hand, managed to flee to Kenya and has not yet been extradited to Nigeria.
Gambaryan’s trial is ongoing, and he is facing charges of money laundering along with his company. Concerns about his health have been raised by both his family and his employer, with fears that the detention may have worsened his condition.
In response, the Nigerian Correctional Service has assured the public that Gambaryan is in good health. The service confirmed that he has undergone medical evaluations and has shown no serious health issues.
