The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, founder of Rapture Empowerment International in Osogbo.
According to reports, Bishop Olaribigbe was fatally stabbed by a man who accused him of being romantically involved with his wife.
Police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola disclosed that the incident occurred during the bishop’s attempt to mediate a long-standing domestic dispute between the estranged couple.
“The couple were not living together, though they were not legally separated,” Opalola explained. She noted that the pastor had regularly intervened in their disputes and was at the wife’s home when the husband arrived unannounced.
Witnesses said the confrontation turned violent as the husband, fueled by jealousy and suspicion, attacked Bishop Olaribigbe. “We were told that the husband stabbed the pastor multiple times, killing him,” Opalola stated, adding that the suspect believed the pastor was having an affair with his wife.
Sources revealed that the woman served as an interpreter at Bishop Olaribigbe’s church, located in the BCGA area of Osogbo. Although separated, the couple reportedly had frequent disagreements. Bishop Olaribigbe had gone to visit the wife, who was unwell, when the incident took place early Thursday morning.
The suspect, enraged upon finding the cleric in the residence, reportedly confronted him, leading to a heated argument. During the altercation, the man allegedly stabbed the bishop in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.
Police have detained both the husband and wife for questioning at the Dugbe Division, Osogbo. The bishop’s body has been transferred to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH) morgue for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the tragic event.
