Bobrisky Absent as VeryDarkMan, EFCC, Others Face House of Reps Over Bribery Allegations

Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, made an appearance at the National Assembly today alongside his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. This visit was in response to a House of Representatives Joint Committee investigation into serious allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).

The probe was initiated after allegations of corruption and misconduct emerged, particularly concerning social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. However, Bobrisky was notably absent from today’s proceedings, although his lawyer, Avwerosuoghene Omuvwie, was present to represent him.

VeryDarkMan, who has been vocal in the accusations against Bobrisky, refused to make any statements during the session. He cited Bobrisky’s absence as the reason for his silence.

He stated, “Today, I will not say anything because an invitation was given out to me and Bobrisky. But he is not here. I don’t see why I will be here and he is not. So I won’t say anything, but my lawyer will.” His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, was expected to speak on his behalf during the investigation.

The background to this controversy stems from an audio clip released by VeryDarkMan, in which he accused Bobrisky of bribing EFCC officials with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against her. Additionally, it was claimed in the audio that Bobrisky never served a jail term, despite being sentenced to six months for the abuse of the Naira. Instead, he was allegedly kept in a private apartment while avoiding prison.

Bobrisky has denied all accusations and threatened to take legal action over the claims. In response to these serious accusations, the House of Representatives launched an inquiry to investigate the possible involvement of the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Services in these alleged acts of corruption.

The EFCC and NCoS representatives also appeared before the committee to respond to the allegations. It remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold, but the absence of Bobrisky at this crucial session has raised many questions.
