Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, a controversial Nigerian social media personality and crossdresser, was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border on Monday.
The incident, which occurred as Bobrisky attempted to travel to neighboring Benin Republic, has sparked interest and curiosity among many.
Bobrisky, known for his bold fashion choices and social media presence, reportedly arrived at the Seme border dressed in women’s attire.
According to a source within the Immigration Service who spoke with DAILYTRUST, Bobrisky had presented his Nigerian passport to the immigration officers at the departure wing of the Seme Area Command for routine clearance, just like any other traveler.
However, the officers on duty recognized him immediately as the well-known crossdresser and chose to detain him for further questioning.
Eyewitnesses described the scene at the border as one filled with mild drama, as curious onlookers and security operatives scrambled to catch a glimpse of Bobrisky.
His arrest reportedly caused quite a stir, as immigration officers quickly escorted him to the office of the Comptroller of Immigration, Seme Area Command, Mr. Abdullahi Adamu, for questioning.
An immigration officer, speaking to reporters unofficially, confirmed the situation, explaining, “He presented his passport for clearance like any other traveler, but was prevented from continuing his journey into Benin Republic. He is presently being detained in the office of the Comptroller where he is being questioned.”
The officer also revealed that Bobrisky’s arrest had not yet resulted in any formal charges at the time of his detention.
