Idris Okuneye, known widely as Bobrisky, a popular and controversial figure on Nigerian social media, was re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Bobrisky was reportedly detained by immigration officers while attempting to board a KLM flight to London via Amsterdam. According to officials, this arrest follows his failure to respond to several summons related to his serious allegations against the EFCC.
An inside source from the EFCC told VANGUARD that Bobrisky, who is well-known for his vibrant social media presence, had previously accused the commission of bribery and corruption. The allegations included claims that he paid EFCC officials a sum of N15 million to dismiss charges of money laundering against him.
However, the EFCC has firmly denied these accusations, stating that Bobrisky’s failure to provide evidence has raised concerns and could result in further legal action for spreading false information.
“We apprehended him in Lagos, and he will be transported to Abuja,” the source disclosed. “He accused us of bribery and corruption, yet he repeatedly ignored our summons to substantiate these claims. Such serious allegations cannot be ignored. Furthermore, he has also declined to appear before the National Assembly on this matter. We had no option but to take him into custody to ensure he provides evidence to support his accusations.”
Dele Oyewale, who serves as the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, confirmed the re-arrest, but he refrained from revealing further details about the case. Oyewale noted that while the investigation continues, Bobrisky will remain in custody and could face additional charges if his allegations prove to be baseless.
In addition to his claims against the EFCC, Bobrisky recently took to Instagram, where he shared a post alleging his arrest. He claimed that the situation led to a physical confrontation with immigration officers, during which he sustained minor injuries. The authenticity of his Instagram post, however, has yet to be verified by the authorities.
