In a violent raid early Sunday morning, suspected Boko Haram terrorists targeted the Jakana Police Station in Konduga local government area of Borno State. The assault, which occurred around 1 a.m., led to the tragic deaths of a police driver and a local woman.
The attackers, heavily armed, launched a coordinated assault on the police station, sparking a prolonged gunfight with security personnel that lasted for nearly three hours. The terrorists overwhelmed the defenders and managed to escape by around 3 a.m. During the attack, they set fire to two patrol vehicles belonging to both the police and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), as well as a motorcycle. They also seized several weapons and ammunition from the station.
Jakana is located about 45 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, along the Damaturu-Maiduguri expressway. The sudden violence disrupted the early morning calm and has left the local community in shock.
