Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, in a statement issued on Tuesday, expressed strong condemnation of the latest attacks carried out by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) across different communities in the state. He urged residents to remain strong in the face of adversity and continue to seek divine intervention through prayers.
The governor’s reaction followed a string of deadly incidents, including an improvised explosive device (IED) attack along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road that claimed the lives of two travellers. These attacks, which have also affected areas such as Marte, Chibok, Gwoza, and Kala Balge, have left several families grieving and communities unsettled.
Governor Zulum, in a statement shared by his spokesperson Dauda Illiya, noted his deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and reassured residents that the state government is not backing down in the fight against insurgency. He said efforts are ongoing in partnership with the Federal Government, the Nigerian military, and other security agencies to bring lasting peace to the region.
“The recent surge in attacks will not deter our resolve to tackle the scourge of the 16-year-long insurgency. I urge the people of Borno to remain resilient and prayerful. This is a partial eclipse — and we shall overcome it, Insha Allah,” Zulum stated.
He noted that the ongoing acts of terror are not only deeply troubling but also a painful reminder of the tough journey the state has faced over the years. He made special mention of the lives lost among education workers, security personnel, and civilians, describing their deaths as tragic and unjust.
“I am more determined than ever to support the military, security agencies, and our volunteer forces in the fight to end terrorism and insurgency in our state,” the governor added.
Governor Zulum also reflected on his recent trip to Gwoza, where he met with both soldiers and members of the Izge community. According to him, the visit was aimed at strengthening morale and showing continued support to those standing at the frontlines of the crisis.
