Borno State Governor Approves Payment of New Minimum Wage, Clears Pension Backlog

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has taken a significant step towards improving the welfare of civil servants in the state. Governor Zulum announced that the state will begin paying the new minimum wage starting this month, marking a major development for government employees in the state.

The announcement was made public by Abdulrahman Bundi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, through a post on Facebook. According to Bundi, Governor Zulum met with the state’s minimum wage implementation committee earlier in the week to finalize the decision.

“The meeting was held in Maiduguri on Monday at the council chamber of the government house,” he said. The Governor directed that the new national minimum wage be implemented immediately for all state workers, ensuring that they benefit from this long-anticipated change.

This move is expected to bring relief to many workers in Borno State who have been eagerly waiting for the new wage structure to be put into effect. Civil servants across the state are likely to see improvements in their salaries, which could positively impact their livelihoods and the local economy.

In addition to the announcement of the new minimum wage, Bundi revealed another development concerning the welfare of pensioners and the families of deceased civil servants in Borno. Governor Zulum has approved the release of N3 billion to settle outstanding entitlements owed to the families of late government workers. This gesture is part of a broader effort by the governor to address long-standing issues related to unpaid benefits.

The Governor also made a symbolic cheque presentation to the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, assuring them of his commitment to clearing the backlog of gratuities owed to pensioners. He added that there would be an upward review of the monthly pension payments to ensure retirees in Borno State receive a fair and dignified compensation for their years of service.
