Botswana’s President Masisi Concedes Election Defeat, Plans to Step Down

Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi announced his decision to step down after suffering a significant defeat in the recent general elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Masisi congratulated the opposition, stating, “I wish to congratulate the opposition on their victory and concede the election.”

The preliminary results show that Masisi’s party faced a strong challenge from the opposition, which gained considerable support from voters seeking change.

The high voter turnout reflected a growing desire for new leadership, driven by concerns over economic issues and governance.
