A bomb explosion has claimed lives and caused injuries in Zamfara State. The deadly incident, believed to be orchestrated by bandits, occurred along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, targeting unsuspecting travelers and local residents.
Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism expert specializing in the Lake Chad Basin region, revealed the details on Wednesday through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to Makama, the explosion signifies a worrying escalation in the tactics employed by bandits in the area, who have traditionally focused on crimes such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed robbery.
Makama emphasized, “Traditionally known for their activities such as kidnapping, cattle rustling, and armed attacks, the use of explosives introduces a new level of insecurity in the region.” He noted that this marks the second bomb attack recorded along the Gusau-Dansadau route, raising alarm about the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara.
