The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, who is facing allegations of involvement in an ₦80.2 billion fraud case.
The court set the bail amount at ₦500 million, requiring Bello to provide two sureties as part of the conditions.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who emphasized that the decision to grant bail was at the court’s discretion. This development comes after Bello’s arraignment over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.
While delivering the decision, Justice Nwite highlighted the importance of maintaining judicial fairness while ensuring the defendant’s presence at trial.
The judge also underscored that bail is not an indication of the outcome of the case but a procedural step to ensure legal proceedings are followed.
The allegations against Bello revolve around accusations of mismanagement of public funds amounting to ₦80.2 billion.
