BREAKING: Ex-minister Nenadi Usman Appointed Labour Party’s Caretaker Chairman

Former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, has been appointed as the chairman of the Labour Party’s (LP) national caretaker committee.

The decision was made during an extended stakeholders meeting of the party held on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

Usman, who joined the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections, will lead a caretaker committee made up of 29 members. Her appointment marks a significant shift in her political journey, having previously served as a senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following her election in April 2011.

During her acceptance speech, Usman emphasized the importance of unity within the party and pledged to perform her duties with diligence. “We must work together as a party to achieve our common goals,” she said, underscoring her commitment to her new role.

The meeting saw notable absences, including the former chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure. However, prominent figures such as former presidential candidate Peter Obi and his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, were in attendance.

Also present were Abia State Governor Alex Otti, his deputy Ikechukwu Emetu, and several Labour Party members from the National Assembly, including Senator Victor Umeh, Obi Aguocha, and other state assembly members. Additionally, former governorship candidates like Athan Achonu from Imo State were also part of the gathering.
