BREAKING: Ex-Speaker Obasa storms Lagos Assembly with policemen

The Lagos State House of Assembly witnessed high tension on Thursday as former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa entered the complex with a team of security personnel. Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13 over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power, made an unexpected appearance, fueling speculations about a possible attempt to reclaim his position.

Following Obasa’s removal, Mojisola Meranda was elected as the new Speaker. However, her leadership has been surrounded by controversy, with reports of division within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). There have been claims that President Bola Tinubu was unhappy with Obasa’s removal, leading to pressure on Meranda to step down.

Earlier on Thursday, reports surfaced that Meranda’s security details had been withdrawn while Obasa’s were reinstated. This move raised concerns about a possible shift in leadership once again. Sources within the assembly complex revealed that Obasa, accompanied by policemen, made his way into the chamber, causing unrest among lawmakers and staff present.

“Currently, Obasa has forced his way into the assembly chamber,” a source told Daily Trust.

Witnesses stated that there was a standoff as Obasa’s presence created uncertainty regarding the power struggle in the House. It was also noted that he was attempting to gain access to the Speaker’s office, raising questions about the next course of action.
