The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has officially started transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos. This marks the first time NNPCL is moving fuel from the newly established refinery.
Over the weekend, more than 100 trucks from NNPCL arrived at the Dangote Refinery, located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, to lift the first batch of petrol. This operation was confirmed through a video shared on the Dangote Group’s verified X (formerly known as Twitter) page on Sunday.
This follows an announcement made by Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products. Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Adedeji stated that NNPCL remains the only buyer of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.
NNPCL will handle the distribution of petrol across the country, but other refined products such as diesel will be available to willing buyers or off-takers, Adedeji clarified. He further revealed that starting from October 1, NNPCL will purchase crude oil from the Dangote Refinery using the local currency, Naira, instead of foreign exchange.
