BREAKING: INEC Rejects Recall Petition Against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the petition seeking to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Kogi Central Senatorial District did not meet constitutional requirements.

The commission made this known on Thursday through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The recall process, as outlined in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), requires a petition signed by more than half of the registered voters in the senator’s constituency.

However, INEC has determined that this threshold was not met in the case of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall bid.

In its statement, INEC said, “The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).”
