Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Jandor, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, announced his decision on Monday during a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos.
His return to the APC comes weeks after he resigned from the PDP, citing internal conflicts and a lack of discipline within the party. Jandor noted that the PDP failed to address anti-party activities during the last general elections, which contributed to his decision to leave.
“Our story in the PDP was a case of working with perennial political saboteurs but we have resolved to love our future much more than we hate our past,” he said.
Jandor explained that before making his decision, he consulted with family members, political associates, elder statesmen, and supporters. He also engaged with leaders from other parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Young Progressive Party (YPP).
He further stated that his decision to return to the APC was based on the party’s strong focus on winning elections and forming a government that can contribute to the state’s development.
“We have decided to join a political party that considers winning for its members as top priority, not minding who is on the ballot,” he noted.
Addressing concerns about his previous exit from the APC, Jandor compared his political journey to a Yoruba proverb, which suggests that experience allows one to make better choices. He pointed out the difference between the leadership styles of the APC and PDP in Lagos, stating that while the ruling party prioritizes victory for its members, the PDP has a history of internal sabotage during elections.
“In APC, we have a leader, even if you fault his selection choices, you can’t fault his desire to always win for his party to the benefit of all members, followers, and the state,” he stated.
He acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, in convincing him to return to the APC.
“I must also recognize the relentless efforts of the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who has been on our case for over one year to return ‘home’ and join hands with Mr. President,” he said.
Jandor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for recognizing his contributions to democracy and nation-building. He also revealed that after his resignation from the PDP, Seyi Tinubu personally reached out to encourage him to return to the APC.
Jandor assured his supporters that his decision was in the best interest of Lagos State. He urged them to join him in this new political phase, promising to continue working towards a better and more developed Lagos.
“We remain committed to the values of service, integrity, and progress. Together, we will continue to champion the cause of a better Lagos for present and future generations,” he said.
