BREAKING: Makinde Presents Staff of Office to New Alaafin of Oyo

Governor Seyi Makinde, on Monday, presented the Staff of Office to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade. The ceremony, held at the governor’s office in Agodi, Ibadan, marked a historic moment in Oyo State’s history.

Oba Owoade’s appointment was previously announced on Friday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade. The Alaafin, who now becomes the 46th monarch to ascend the throne, received his appointment letter from the state government earlier in the day.

The event attracted a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, government officials, religious leaders, and citizens of Oyo, all eager to witness the historic occasion.

The ceremony began with prayers offered by Islamic, Christian, and traditional clerics, symbolizing unity and blessings for the new reign. Traditional drummers, dancers, and musicians provided cultural performances, adding vibrancy to the celebration.

While presenting the Staff of Office, Governor Makinde described Oba Owoade as a leader uniquely qualified to preserve and advance the rich cultural heritage of the Oyo Kingdom. “We are assured that Oba Owoade will lead with wisdom, integrity, and a strong commitment to fostering unity,” Makinde stated.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Owoade pledged to focus on the growth and well-being of his people while safeguarding the traditions that define the Oyo Kingdom.

“I will devote myself to the advancement and prosperity of the Oyo Kingdom while ensuring that the traditions and values that have sustained us for generations remain steadfast,” he declared.

The new Alaafin succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who ruled for an unprecedented five decades before his passing in April 2022.
