Bolaji Abdullahi, Nigeria’s former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Abdullahi announced his decision on Monday, stating that he is yet to determine his next political step.
Speaking on his future plans, Abdullahi said, “The decision of what to do and where to go will be taken in the future, and that’s left to God.” His statement leaves room for speculation about whether he may join another political party or focus on non-political endeavors.
The resignation comes during a period marked by notable defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Just last week, Dalyop Chollom, a Labour Party (LP) member representing the Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in Plateau State, left his party for the APC.
In addition, five other lawmakers have recently switched allegiance to the APC. These include four Labour Party representatives—Tochukwu Chinedu Okere from Imo, Donatus Matthew from Kaduna, Akiba Bassey from Cross River, and Esosa Iyawe from Edo—as well as one PDP member whose name was not disclosed.
