BREAKING: NECO Release 2024 SSCE Result

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2024 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with more than half of the candidates achieving significant academic success. The announcement was made by NECO’s Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, during a press conference held at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

According to Professor Wushishi, a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam. This figure includes 706,950 male and 669,473 female candidates. Out of the total registered candidates, 1,367,736 students sat for the exams, with 702,112 males and 665,624 females making up the group.

Professor Wushishi provided a detailed breakdown of the results, stating that 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55% of those who sat for the exams, successfully obtained five credits or more, including key subjects like English Language and Mathematics. He further explained that 1,147,597 candidates, or 83.90%, achieved five credits or more when considering all subjects, regardless of whether English and Mathematics were included.

On the issue of examination malpractice, the NECO registrar highlighted a positive development. He noted a substantial reduction in the number of students involved in malpractice compared to the previous year. “The number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437, compared to 12,030 in 2023, indicating a reduction of 30.1%,” he said.

However, Professor Wushishi revealed that 40 schools across 17 states were involved in mass cheating during the exams. These schools will face further investigation and possible sanctions. “One school in Ekiti has been recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject,” he added.

Additionally, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to their poor conduct during the examination period. Their offenses ranged from poor supervision and aiding malpractice to extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.

The NECO registrar also urged candidates who took part in the 2024 SSCE to check their results online. “Candidates can now access their results on the NECO website: www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration number,” Professor Wushishi said.
