Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda.
Meranda, who took over as Speaker after Obasa was impeached by lawmakers on January 13, officially stepped down from the role on Monday.
During her final plenary session, she was praised by fellow lawmakers for her service.
Before the plenary began, a closed-door meeting was held within the Assembly premises. Reports says that the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, attended the meeting alongside Obasa and Meranda.
The meeting caused a delay in the plenary session, which was initially scheduled for 1 p.m. but was later reconvened.
Obasa’s reinstatement followed high-level discussions involving key stakeholders, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a meeting held on Sunday night.
