Tension escalated in Kano as angry protesters set a bonfire at the Kano Government House, creating a scene of panic and chaos. The incident occurred as violence was reported in several parts of the city.
The unrest began when a large group of protesters gathered from various parts of Kano, hoping to hear from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. As the crowd approached the gates of the Government House, some protesters set tyres on fire, which quickly escalated into a confrontation with the security forces.
In an attempt to control the situation, security personnel fired gunshots and released teargas to disperse the crowd. This sudden escalation led to widespread confusion, with protesters fleeing in all directions to escape the chaos.
Governor Yusuf had previously warned about potential disruptions. On Wednesday, he disclosed that he had received intelligence reports indicating that some individuals might try to hijack the protest for their own purposes.
Despite these warnings, he invited legitimate protesters to come to the Government House, Kano, while cautioning troublemakers to stay away from the state.
