BREAKING: PDP Finally Reinstates Wike’s Ally, Anyanwu, as National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party has reversed its earlier decision on Senator Samuel Anyanwu and put on hold its planned National Executive Committee meeting set for June 30. This change came after a meeting between party leaders and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the PDP national office in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, shared that the choice was not easy but was agreed upon by top members of the party. He stood alongside key figures like Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki as he made the announcement.

Damagum noted that Senator Anyanwu is now fully back in the National Working Committee. “Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated in the NWC. It was a difficult decision, and it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party,” he said.

According to party insiders, the decision to bring back Anyanwu was partly made to reduce rising tensions within the party, especially in the South-East zone, where Anyanwu has strong support. Several members had voiced concerns about how his earlier suspension could affect unity and party strength ahead of upcoming elections.

Sources at the meeting said INEC also shared concerns over internal party issues and how they might affect general electoral planning. The leadership reportedly took this seriously, leading to the temporary cancellation of the NEC meeting and the quick resolution on Anyanwu’s status.

Though no new date has been fixed for the NEC meeting, party leaders say talks are ongoing, and a fresh date will be announced when agreement is reached.
