BREAKING: Police Ban Sallah Durbar Celebration in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has placed a ban on all Sallah Durbar celebrations in the state ahead of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr festivities. The decision, which was announced by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, is aimed at preventing potential unrest and ensuring public safety.

Speaking at the Bompai Police Headquarters, CP Bakori noted that intelligence reports revealed possible plans by certain groups to use the Durbar celebration to cause disruptions. Following consultations with the Kano State Government and other relevant stakeholders, the police concluded that canceling the event was necessary to maintain peace.

“In pursuit of a safe and secure celebration, and to maintain peace and public order, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has assessed the rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding the Durbar activities,” Bakori stated.

He further noted that there were credible reports of individuals intending to exploit the event to create instability. As a result, all Durbar-related activities, including horse processions and cultural displays, have been prohibited throughout the state during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The police commissioner urged residents to observe their Eid prayers only at designated praying grounds and to comply with security guidelines. He advised against carrying any items that might raise suspicion and warned that activities such as horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving would not be tolerated. Parents and guardians were also cautioned to prevent their children from engaging in disruptive actions.

CP Bakori assured the public that security personnel would be deployed across the state to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration. He encouraged residents to prioritize peace, avoid any actions that could lead to disorder, and report suspicious activities to the authorities.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us prioritize peace above all else, set aside our differences, and unite as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” Bakori urged.
