BREAKING: President Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointments

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for Federal Government hospitals in different parts of the country. The hospitals are located in Akure (Ondo State), Gombe (Gombe State), Azare (Bauchi State), Lafia (Nasarawa State), Maiduguri (Borno State), and Kafanchan (Kaduna State).

This announcement was made on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. In a statement, Onanuga noted that the appointments are aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across these regions.

Among those appointed is Prof. Olusegun Ojo, who has been named the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. Ojo is described as a “seasoned medical professional” who previously held the position of pioneer CMD at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.

In Gombe, Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi has been reappointed as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. His reappointment was based on what the presidency described as “outstanding performance during his first term.”

For the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, Dr. Dauda Katagum, who had been serving as the Acting CMD, has now been confirmed as the substantive Chief Medical Director.

Dr. Ikrama Hassan was appointed as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State. Before this role, he worked as the Medical Director of the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital, which was recently upgraded to a teaching hospital.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ali Ramat, a Consultant Orthopedic and Spine Surgeon, will serve as the Chief Medical Director of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State.

In Kaduna State, Dr. Haruna Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan.

Onanuga stated that all the appointments are for a tenure of four years, beginning from the dates of assumption of office. He also provided details of the effective dates for some appointments. For instance, Abdullahi’s second term as CMD in Gombe started on September 5, 2024, while Katagum’s tenure in Azare began on December 6, 2024.
