President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed into law a bill to establish the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State.
The announcement was made on Monday by Bwala Daniel, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication. In a statement, Daniel expressed the President’s satisfaction with the development, noting that the establishment of the new university is a key step in fulfilling the administration’s goals.
“I am pleased to inform Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assented to the bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology, Ogoni, in Rivers State,” Daniel said.
The university will focus on environmental studies and technological advancements, providing students with the opportunity to study in a region that has long been known for its environmental challenges.
Daniel further noted that this development is in line with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, which seeks to correct past inequalities and create balanced national growth through inclusive institutions.
The university’s establishment follows a similar initiative in Southern Kaduna, where a federal university was also recently approved. These actions reflect the President’s commitment to bridging the gaps in education and ensuring that all parts of Nigeria are equally represented in the country’s development.
“To President Tinubu, there are no minority ethnicities in Nigeria,” Daniel wrote. “He believes in the opening stanza of our national anthem, which states that though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood, we stand.”
