BREAKING: Several Killed as Suspected Herdsmen Attack Benue Communities Again

Suspected herdsmen have launched deadly attacks in two local government areas of Benue State—Agatu and Apa—leaving a number of people dead and raising fresh fears among residents. The attacks, which happened on Tuesday, June 10, took place just days after a visit by senior military officials to the region.

The Chief of Army Staff was among those who recently toured parts of Benue, promising to improve security in areas affected by violent clashes. Despite those promises, fresh violence has erupted.

According to local sources, one of the victims in Agatu LGA was identified as Sunday Dutse. He was killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu road. Dutse, who was originally from Odejo village, had already been displaced by a previous attack in the area. Since then, he had been living in Ogwule-Kaduna, also within Agatu, where he was believed to be taking shelter.

A separate attack took place earlier that same day in Apa LGA, specifically in the EdikwG’Icho community. Three young men lost their lives in what appeared to be an ambush. Two of the victims were said to be residents of EdikwG’Icho, while the third came from Ugbokpo town.
