BREAKING: Supreme Court Reinstates Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The ruling was delivered on Friday by a five-member panel of justices who unanimously decided in favor of Anyanwu.

The court noted that issues concerning the leadership or membership of a political party are internal matters and should not be handled by the judiciary. With this decision, the Supreme Court overturned the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, which had previously upheld Anyanwu’s removal.

The case began when a Federal High Court in Enugu ruled against Anyanwu’s position as PDP National Secretary following a suit filed by Aniagwu Emmanuel. On December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Enugu upheld the Federal High Court’s decision, affirming Anyanwu’s removal. However, the Supreme Court ruled that the Federal High Court had no jurisdiction to hear the case in the first place.
